Significato : Sebbene sia diffusa la convinzione che la canzone fosse stata scritta da Paul Simon in seguito all'assassinio del Presidente degli Stati Uniti John F. Kennedy, avvenuto il 22 novembre 1963, le note di Art Garfunkel sul retro di copertina dell'album "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." indicano che la musica fu scritta nel novembre 1963 ; il 19 febbraio 1964 "the song practically wrote itself", "la canzone praticamente si era scritta da sola". Non si può quindi sostenere con certezza che Simon concepì la canzone come un modo di rappresentare il trauma provato da molti americani causato dall'improvvisa morte di un leader vigoroso e visionario. Piuttosto, come ricorda Garfunkel, il tema della canzone è l'incapacità dell'uomo di comunicare. Il tutto, con un titolo che riprende la ben nota passione di Simon per gli ossimori. Anni dopo, Paul Simon affermò in un'intervista che il verso iniziale "Hello, darkness my old friend" deriva dal fatto che nel periodo in cui la scrisse trovava conciliante scrivere e comporre stando chiuso e al buio nel bagno della sua abitazione.

Ma cos'altro c'è dietro?! A cosa si riferisce la canzone quando nomina il dio/neon davanti al quale la gente si inchina e prega?

Non trovate come me che c'è dell'altro dietro a questa (all'apparenza) "canzoncina" (solo perché è canticchiabile!)?!

Beautiful lines and meaningful words. I am so attracted by the content it had. It has the questions to all the life problems one will eventually face with the course of time. And that's the point where concept of God comes in. Its a pacifier. actually. Thanks for the read.
